Bios Since LHS (A-F) (G-M) (N-Z)

Jack Gale

Short Story...
After High School I joined the Navy thinking that I could use the time to
decide what I wanted to do with my life. 27 years later I retired from the
Navy at Moffett Field, CA still not sure what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I ended up working for a Semiconductor Capitol Equipment company in Silicon
Valley for 9 years and then a few years ago moved to Genentech as a Project
Manager in their Biochemical Manufacturing group.
I live in Mountain View CA with my wife Debbie who grew up out here in
Millbrae and we have a 19 year old son who lives in San Diego and attends
SDSU. Our spare time is spent either maintaining our home and garden or up at an
old fixer upper cabin we own up in the Sierra's near Lake Tahoe.

----I went to college at Colorado State University. After
college I had careers as a construction manager, stockbroker,
and a mortgage broker. Finally retired two years ago. Still live in
Colorado at Castle Rock. I am married to wife Mary who has two grown
kids. Belong to the Colorado Mountain Club and enjoy outdoor
activities. I have traveled the pass twenty five years and really
enjoyed that. (Seems strange one can put their whole life in one
paragraph)

As The Chair Turns
I have been in the hair business for the last thirty-five years and I have always said I was going to write a book with the above title. It seems that just writing it bio-sized seems monumental, but I will give you my Reader's Digest version. In the last thirty-five years of my life, I have owned, operated, or managed no less than 10 salons. I currently own a salon in Arvada, Co. that staffs
another 10 people and business is fantastic. While at times I feel like the Trojan man on the cover of our invitations, I am still twirling hair, the chair and selling Mary Kay cosmetics.
I have been married--let's just say off and on for the last thrity-nine years! First husband --- eleven years and two wonderful sons, Keith and Cody! Second marriage--18 years and another wonderful son, Mark. Currently- married to a wonderful man, Laymon Martin, and combined we have 6 sons fortunately they are all grown. Of my three--Keith is living in Georgia(married no grandkids-Yet)Cody is getting married in Savannah on the 7th of Oct.(he is the lead male singer on a cruise ship) and Mark is starting his third year at CU Boulder and loving it(he is also on the CU Varsity Crew team) They all have their own stories now and as with all families, it certainly gets interesting sometimes!!! Laymon and I plan to retire someday and travel all around the country. I will probably always work doing something but would love to just sit and
paint(hobby/vocation at times)up in the mountains on or the coast. I guess we will see where the first "Grandbaby" is born!! In the meantime, I will keep the chair warm and ready to turn for anyone wanting a cut and conversation in Arvada!!! Come see me anytime---Cheryl (Halcomb) Martin

Hi LaRyane and Carol and all of the others who are responsible for this upcoming event. I will be there and I have just today mailed my 40 bucks. My wife, Diane was gone on a trip and I am late, but perhaps not too late to sign up for the reunion. I will be coming alone.
I married Diane 22 years ago and have lived in California for the last 20 years. I am currently in the process of retiring from a real estate and construction business and am planning to move to Oregon or British Columbia. We spend time in Mexico and consider ourselves lucky to be in excellent health. We spend time boating with a club of like-minded friends.

Pat (Kennedy) Knutson

Life Story (short version of the first of years and a more updated version
of the last 20 years.) After high school and college I married my high school sweetheart Jim K (LHS class of 1965) in 1970. We lived in Longmont until 1983 when we moved to the Central Coast of California to a community named Camarillo. I have spent the last 23 years in school administration working for the Pleasant Valley School District as the Accounting Supervisor working for the Assistant Superintendent. Jim and I are currently in the planning/construction phase of building our new home in Paso Robles, California. Our hobbies include growing wine
grapes and making wine (with two other couples) from Paso Robles area grapes. Some of our wines have won several international awards, which we are very proud of. Currently our wines are not bonded which you need to be able to sell wine and we are not ready to take that giant step. Since we are unable to sell our wine we enjoy sharing it with friends and family. We enjoy the people we meet in the wine industry and all the social activities that the industry affords.
Jim is semi retired working part time in San Diego and I am looking forward to retiring in the next year. A new chapter in our lives will begin and travel will be on the top of that list. Our time will be a very expensive commodity when we are free of work routines.

I am a professional poker player here in Las Vegas and there is a tournament on that day so I will be working!

Sorry I will not be able to attend the reunion, as 9/23 is Dad’s 88th birthday. After college, I worked in public administration with cities and counties in Missouri and in private business, here in Colorado. I moved back to Colorado in 1980. The last 25 years of my career were spent with high tech companies, like Storage Tek and Philips Electronics. I am enjoying my retirement even more. I retired in 2005. Now I to try to do all the things you say you will do – read, travel, exercise….Not sure about that exercise part. Best wishes to all. Have a great time.

Fellow LHS classmates: Unfortunately, I will be unable to join you at the 40 Year Reunion...But I will try to recap my last 40 years...a tall order for an e-mail and a tall order for a fading memory! As some of you may recall, I spent my senior year as an exchange student in Germany and did not return to LHS, though I graduated from LHS. I went directly to Claremont McKenna College in California and graduated from there in 1970, then on to Boalt Hall, UC Berkeley's School of Law. With some significant differences, I followed my father's interest in politics and public affairs. From college on, I have been a pretty liberal Democrat (reforming from my days as Colorado Vice Chairman of Teenage Republicans.) Rather than ever running for public office, I worked in government for ten years after law school: first at San Francisco City Planning and retiring as California's Deputy Secretary of Business, Transportation and Housing. When Jerry Brown retired as Governor, I left government for the private practice of law. I am still, however, very involved in civic affairs. At the end of my law school time, I met (then married in 1975) my wife, Kate Ecker. While she was at Stanford Graduate School of Business, we lived in Palo Alto, then moved to San Francisco and eventually returned to Berkeley. She has been, until two years ago, a management consultant, mostly in the private sector. My specialties in the private practice of law have been real estate, corporate finance and land use, with my practice located in larger firms for the first part of my law career. We continued to travel a great deal and I maintained my great interest in wine, food and the arts. In 1988, while in Italy, I decided not to go into the food business in Berkeley with many other
friends, but rather to convince my big law firm to develop a wine and food law practice. As my good fortune would have it, it worked and we moved to the wine country of Sonoma County to be my base. Eventually, I left the big firm and I am now the Managing Partner of a small boutique law firm (fourteen lawyers plus fourteen support staff), which I help found eight years ago. We have specialties such as wine and food, corporate finance, affordable housing and commercial litigation. I am on way too many non-profit boards, mostly in the areas of wine and food and the arts. We have a very small vineyard and bottled our first wine vintage last Fall. Two years ago Kate gave up her private sector work to become Vice President of the Community Foundation Sonoma County. She is also Chair of the Board of  Trustees of Sonoma Academy, an independent private high school where two of our children will be going as of the Fall.....kids?...oh yes, we have a twenty-one year old, Alexander, who is a senior at Wesleyan University in Connecticut and fourteen year old twins, Clare and Julian, who will be freshmen at Sonoma Academy....As for my family, my father died more than thirty years ago, my mother and my brother, Peter, live in Boulder, my three sisters (Meredith, Kristen and Troye) are spread from Providence, R.I. to Chicago to Phoenix.

Doyle and Deanna (parker) Martens

Forty years have gone very fast and like all of you , wonder where they have Gone too. It seems like yesterday we all were going our own separate Ways, starting to That college or marriage or job and now 40 years later, it seems like a Dream. We have had 35 1/2 yrs together and have been blessed with two wonderfull Sons and daugher-in-laws. We have two precious grandchildren, Hannan and Evan that we love to pieces. I know now why parents don't do away with their teenagers, the rewards come a little later. We have seen lots as you have, in our marriage, the world struggles and Wars, everything is constantly changing, except for our love for one another And our families. Like you , we have lost some of our parents and other family members, and have been given the wonderfull experiences of getting to know our siblings
again, once the children have been raised and starting their lives and families. We are able to look back and remember childhood stories and can laugh and cry about the past. Now as we all are getting closer to the big 65, we now can look at maybe slowing down more and taking more time to smell those roses that the songs referred to. Spending time with our loved one watching those beautifull Missouri sunsets are hard to beat, nor that beautifull golden shine before sunset on the trees and yards that have come back alive with the new rains. We have received so many blessings in ways that you can't count or add up on a machine, hopefully the lord has blessed you all as well. We look forward to seeing our old friends and classmates and shair in with the laughs and tears of old stories or the years gone by. See you then, Doyle and Deanna

Janet (McAllister)Graham

Don’t really know what to say on the “recap of the last 40 yrs” ha! Same
location, same husband, all the family is happy, healthy, and doing what
they love. Life is great! See ya there!

John McCarty

Forty years has gone by very quickly. We lived in Longmont until 1989, moved to Southern California until 1996, and have lived in Colorado Springs since. I am the Public Works Director/County Engineer for El Paso County. These days, family is much more important than work. My son Marcus is married and has a son, Reid, who is ten months old (yes, that makes me a grandpa). He and his wife are both attorneys in Denver. My daughter Lindsey is married and both she and her husband are doctors completing their residencies at hospitals in St. Louis. Both Barb and I are blessed with good health, great jobs, and wonderful families. We just completed 37 years of marriage.

Dona McClain

I have the dubious distinction of preparing for my 40th high school reunion the same month my daughter enters LHS as a freshman. This should help me stay young, right? Even though a lot has happened since graduation, it seems to have gone by quickly. After giving this serious thought and in an effort to express outside the box I submit the following. I can't detail everything that has happened to me since we graduated but here are a few thoughts. Over the years I have learned: to question authority; to acknowledge my mistakes, learn from them when I can and apologize when I need to; that just because somebody is in charge it doesn't mean they know what they are doing; That loving someone is not enough to make a relationship work; The best
investment in the future we can make is education; That the 'good old days' is not just a saying; That you cannot 'save' someone, they have to do that for themselves; That expressing your anger and frustration should never happen behind the wheel of a car; That you can never know when something you say or do will make an impact on someone (you only hope it is positive); and that I like to travel, but there's no place like home. I believe: in reincarnation; in the body's ability to heal itself; that therapy works if 1) you are ready to change and 2) you have a good therapist you trust; That people can and do change; That heaven and hell exist....right here on Earth; That forgiveness is the best gift you can give yourself; That organized religion has very little to do with God and very much to do with fear, guilt and control; That the salvation of the human race lies in forgiveness and tolerance; That everyone should spend part of every week reconnecting with the Earth; and that life is short, but it's deep and it's wide.Like a lot of my fellow classmates I find myself with a young child and aging parents. Retirement is on the horizon but I don't feel old enough to be thinking about it. I hope by being interested in the world around me I will continue to learn and maybe even understand what life on this planet is all about.

Dale Miller
